Playback DVDs
Play DVDs
1.
Insert the DVD Video into your DVD device.
2.
Select CD, DVD, & Handhelds from the organization tree.
3.
If auto insert notification for that drive is enabled, the contents of "Devices" will be updated automatically. If not, press F5 to update the contents.
4.
To start playback, you can either double click on the DVD device or highlight the desired title and click the play button on the media player.
Stop DVD Playback
1.
Click the Stop button on the player window, or
2.
Right click in the video area to get a pop-up menu and then select "Stop" from the menu.; or
3.
Click the close window button on the video window.
Navigate through DVD content
During playback, you can navigate through the DVD content using either the media player buttons or using the context menu (right click) in the video window.
Navigate Using the Media Player Buttons
Play/Pause |
Starts playback and is also used to switch from pause or scanning modes back to normal playback. When content is playing, this button will change to a Pause button that will freeze the video. |
Stop Button |
Stops playback and closes the video window |
Next and Previous Buttons |
These switch to the next and previous chapters of the movie. When the video is paused, the Next button will advance to the next still frame (the Previous button does nothing when the video is paused). |
Volume Slider |
You can reposition within the movie by repositioning the slider. |
Navigate Using the Right Click Menu on the Video Window
Play/Pause |
Pauses playback or returns to normal playback speed if the video is currently paused or scanning. |
Full Screen |
Toggles back and forth between full screen mode and a normal window. |
Menu |
Displays the built in DVD menu that is customized for every DVD disc. Often you can choose different audio and subtitle languages, different formats (wide screen 16:9 or 4:3), viewing angles, etc. |
Next/Previous Chapter |
Navigates between chapters in the movie. |
Frame Advance |
When the DVD is paused, this will advance to the next frame. |
Go to Chapter |
This repositions at the chapter of your choosing. |
Forward/Reverse |
Allows you to select a speed for fast forwarding or rewinding. Press the Play button to return to normal playback. |
Options
Audio Options
Audio Options let you control some of the audio properties.
•
You can adjust the properties of the audio decoder that is being used for DVD sound.
•
You can choose the output device to which the audio signal will be sent.
•
You can turn closed captioning on and off if the disc supports it.
Expand Image
Expand Image lets you enlarge a "movie format" image to better fill the proportions of your TV screen. The numbers (1.33, 1.66, 1.85, 2.35) represent the ratio of width to height of the DVD video image. Your TV screen has a 1.33 ratio, so leaving it at that setting will often waste space at the top and bottom of the screen for films shot in a different format. Most films are shot in 1.85 format; some wide-screen movies are in 2.35 format. Choose the one that best fills your TV screen. Of course you will not see parts of the movie that fall to the left and right edges, so if you want the full movie image, leave it at 1.33.
