File Naming & Location Settings

 

Use these settings to determine where your recorded music will be go on your drive, as well as the naming convention for your recorded files.

You may want to change the defaults for these if your C: drive is low on space and you have a second, larger drive in your computer.

 

TEMPORARY FILE LOCATION

This is where Media Center places temporary files while they are being copied or recorded.

 

TRACK IMAGES LOCATION

This is where your track images will be stored if you select not to store them in the ID3v2 tags under the Image tab in Media File Properties.

 

OUTPUT FILE LOCATION (RIPPING AND RECORDING)

Base Path. This is the base directory where Media Center places recorded music files.

Directory Rule. Select a rule in the drop-down menu, or create your own by typing the fields you want directly on the field box. For example, selecting Artist\Album will save your file like this: c\music\Bob Dylan\Time Out of Mind\filename.mp3

Filename Rule. Select a rule in the drop-down menu, or create your own by typing the fields you want directly on the field box.

Sample. This displays a sample of what the file naming and location options you have selected/specified will produce.

Technical Notes about Track File Naming

The mask is the rule that Media Center uses to name your media files. The mask has two main components: the first consists of predefined filename attributes (including artist, album, track# and name); the second consists of any other characters you want to add to the mask to separate attributes or simply to help clarify the filename. The predefined filename attributes are enclosed in the brackets <> and will be replaced with the actual attribute values to create the filename. Avoid using the following characters * / \
