If files are deleted outside of MC and MC tries to apply tags to those files, you'll receive the error. You can manually trigger an Auto Import to remove externally deleted files if those directories are monitored.

Also keep an eye on your mounted external drives to make sure that they aren't dropping offline. I've had external USB enclosures that occasionally power cycle that have caused similar issues.

OK...I have mounted external drives where all my music files are stored, I don't have NAS, and none of the files have been moved outside of MC, unless deleted.

That's a filesystem issue, usually caused by unmounted external drives, NAS shares, or files that have been moved outside of MC.

I will see if I can do that.  If not I will simply hide them per current program functionality.

Update:

Swapped out the Win11 HTPC for a lower performing Windows 10 HTPC with a down-level version of MC and let it run.  Ran for many hours without a video freeze.  So, this narrows it down to the HTPC hardware to Sony TV interface or, less likely, something that changed from MC 32 to MC 33.

Attached is a CTRL-J console readout for the Win10 PC in case it can show something.

So in the past when I've had network problems that sometimes caused the video to freeze or caused video/audio to desync, but at least in my case the console continued running and logging dropped frames (i.e. the network wouldn't let JRiver buffer enough video to keep up, but JRiver itself remained fully responsive).

The devs are the real experts here, but if the console is also freezing that suggests to me that the issue is more likely in the video stack (drivers, video card overheating, bad connection to display, etc.) than in the network stack.

Well, I have to say, MC is a truly well-designed, practical, and efficient application, BUT this 'Media Center encountered errors while tagging' message is still extremely irritating (and my only beef with the whole package). Apologies for the fact that I have already raised this issue once before, but I have tried everything suggested, and scoured the Forum for suggestions or solutions. What makes it annoying is the fact that it does not occur every time. Some albums yes, some no. Plus, it you are doing some editing/updating to multiple files, this annoying message is copied on to the clipboard (why though?), interfering with any copy/pasting you might be doing at the time. Has anyone actually solved this?

FWIW, on RHEL 9.5 (AlmaLinux):

Code: [Select]
Error:
 Problem: conflicting requests
  - nothing provides freetype >= 2.11 needed by mediacenter33-33.0.72-4.x86_64 from @commandline
  - nothing provides glibc >= 2.35 needed by mediacenter33-33.0.72-4.x86_64 from @commandline
  - nothing provides pango >= 1.50 needed by mediacenter33-33.0.72-4.x86_64 from @commandline
  - nothing provides webkit2gtk4.0 needed by mediacenter33-33.0.72-4.x86_64 from @commandline

glibc is at 2.34, pango at 1.48.7, freetype 2.10.4, no webkit2gtk4 or only webkit2gtk3

I don't use MC on RHEL 9, but it's fairly popular.

I think that gerfling passed --mcrepo=noble in his command so if that is excluded it should work.

Thanks Jim, that wiki article suggests that any crash dump should automatically be included in the Report Problem zip file.
But there is no crash dump in my zip file so I guess I didn't get one.
